The passing of Donald Cleary has piqued the interest of many. In 1967, like many young men, Donald was enlisted in the military. Let’s find information about Donald Cleary’s obituary and explore the theme of his death. 

In 1968 and 1969, he served in Vietnam after graduating from Officer Candidate School. After leaving active service in 1994 as a Lt. Col., he went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve until his retirement.

Donald was awarded many medals and honours for his devotion to his country. These included the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Army Reserve Achievement Medal.

Donald was a hardworking city employee in Taunton. He first entered the teaching field by working for the Taunton Public Schools as a Social Studies teacher.

He worked there from the position of assistant principal all the way up to that of superintendent of schools until retiring in 2010. Donald loved the city of Taunton and was dedicated to giving back to it.

Some of the groups he volunteered with include the Taunton Pop Warner, Old Colony YMCA, Taunton Area School-Career, Kiwanis, Kiwanis Key Club, Elks Lodge #150, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 611.

Donald Cleary Obituary And Death Cause

Donald Cleary, 79, passed away at Morton Hospital on August 27 surrounded by loving family and the kind care of hospice staff.

Donald was born to the late Harold J. Cleary and Elizabeth (Donovan) Cleary on February 24, 1944, in Boston, Massachusetts.

He attended St. Mary’s Elementary and Coyle High School while living in Taunton and graduated with the Class of 1962.

He went on to acquire a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Providence College. He went on to get an MA in 1974 and a CAGS in 1980, all from Northeastern University.

In 1967, he wed Judy Conway, and the couple eventually had four children: Donald Jr., Jeffrey, Jessica, and Keith.

Family Mourns Their Loss

Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years, JudithCleary, as well as his children Donald Cleary Jr. (of Franklin), Jeffrey Cleary (of San Francisco), Jessica Fernandes (and her husband Peter) (of Taunton), and Keith Cleary (and his wife Teressa) (of Mansfield). 

He was the sibling of Elizabeth Ploude, Harold Cleary Jr., Hunter Cleary, Samantha Cleary, Janel Fernandes, Mia Fernandes, and Covu Fernandes, all of whom have now passed away.

The Cleary children, Mary Kate and Jack, were overjoyed to welcome Donald as their grandpa.

In addition to his late sister-in-law Julia Conway and brother-in-law Richard Ploude and his late wife MaryAnn, he also leaves behind his sister Elizabeth LaBrode and her husband Myles, as well as his brother Ruthann Cleary.

Many of Don’s nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews are also very dear to him. The family will receive visitors for Donald at the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home on Somerset Avenue (350).

Thursday, August 30th, in Taunton, from 4-7 pm.  A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 14 Saint Mary’s Square, Taunton, on Friday, September 1 at 10 a.m.
